    Brass: material & care guide

Natural window light illuminates one folded yellow brass sheet offcut with a clean raw edge.

    What it is

Brass is a copper-and-zinc alloy family. Its color and surface depend on the composition and finish, which may include plating or an intentional patina. A warm metallic appearance can also occur on other materials, so compare the stated base metal and finish alongside the product photographs.

    Material and design notes

Compare the listed material, color and surface finish in the product photographs. Check dimensions, construction and care notes for the individual piece before choosing.

    Everyday wearing and placement

Choose the scale for its use: a small charm moves differently from a heavy household figure. A stable dry display surface gives an ornament room for safe handling.

    Choose size and construction

Compare the base alloy, coating, total weight and fastening. A polished surface feels visually bright; an aged finish emphasizes carved or engraved detail. For a bracelet, measure your wrist and compare it with the stated fit range. For a pendant, compare chain length with a necklace you already enjoy, then check the full charm height including its bail. A ring needs the intended finger’s measurement and attention to band width. Use the size hub for the measuring steps and the care guide for a mixed-material piece. Read the copper guide when combining materials.

    Care

Use a soft cloth and a method appropriate to the finish. Protect intentional patina and plating from aggressive polishing, and keep cleaning compounds away from adjoining stone, cord and resin.

Compare material wording, dimensions, fastening and finish together, and keep one or two favorite designs open to see how their proportions differ. For a gift, begin with the recipient’s regular style and actual measurements, then include a short note about the occasion. The Lab can help clarify a missing construction or measurement detail before ordering.
